BIFF supporting letter from Alberto Barbera (Director, Venice Film Festival)
Once again, I protest again the risk that the voice of the Busan International Film Festival
is being put under control of politics, instead of speaking in the name of art only.
I warn the City Mayor of Busan not to insinuate again that our support to the Director of the festival and his team
has been manipulated to lead the situation to their advantage.
I am more than concerned that the hostile behavior of the Mayor and
the change of management would lead to the catastrophic result that
the festival will lose his international credibility and prestige, gained with decades of hard and passionate work.
The independence of art from politics is a value that cannot be dismissed.
I am on the side of all Korean filmmakers and professionals
who are showing their support to the Busan International FilmFestival in the name of artistic freedom.
